The films & the groups:

“V for Vendetta” >>more

Your task is to record a Podcast about the movie “V for Vendetta”, a modern dystopian action movie.

Your Podcast should concentrate on the following aspects:

  •  ”Why is ‘V for Vendetta’ called a dystopia?” or “What factors make ‘V for Vendetta’ a dystopia?”
  •   What is the role of media in V for Vendetta? Can you compare it to today’s media?
  •   In a dystopia the question of power is always asked. How does the ruling party in V for Vendetta maintain its power and how did they obtain it?

Please be creative about the acoustic presentation within your Podcast! Remember, that a Podcast can be anything from an interview to a radio play. Spend at least 5 minutes of time brainstorming what your Podcast should sound like.

Reading a summary of the movie will help you getting an overview.

 Helpful Scenes on DVD:

  • The first 20 minutes of the movie
  • Scene 24: A Story

  •  Point out the similarities between Equilibrium and Huxley’s “Brave New World”!
  • How do the people of Libria communicate? Please explain the differences in communication between those people and real people.
  • Is the dystopia, which is illustrated in Equilibrium, completely unreal?

Your Podcast should concentrate on the following aspects:

  •  ”Why is 1984 called a dystopia?” or “What factors make 1984 a dystopia?”
  •  What is the role of technology in 1984? Is the technology shown in the movie fictional or factual? Was it factual when Orwell wrote his book?

  • Is “Oceania” completely unreal?

This is what we have to cope with this term:

Thematischer Schwerpunkt 3: Science and Technology

• Science, technology and human needs: the historical perspective (e. g. aspects of the Industrial Revolution) |more on BBC-webpages|
• Developments, achievements and risks: modern life under the influence of science and technology (erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau: cloning, GM food; • Science Fiction and Dystopia)
